President Donald Trump on Wednesday bragged about his approval ratings ― despite the fact that he’s well underwater in most polls.
“MY REAL POLL NUMBERS ARE THE HIGHEST THEY HAVE EVER BEEN,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website.

It’s not clear what “REAL POLL NUMBERS” he was referring to, but he’s long been very sensitive about his approval ratings ― to the point where he dismisses any he doesn’t like as “fake.”
He’s even filed lawsuits over some polls.
In reality, most polls show the president deep in negative territory. He’s currently near an all-time low in his approval rating and close to an all-time high in his disapproval rating.
The latest New York Times polling average has him with an approval rating of just 38%, compared with 58% who disapprove, leaving him underwater by 20 percentage points.
And on some specific issues, he’s doing much worse.
A recent Fox News poll found that just 31% of voters approve of his handling of the economy, versus 68% who disapprove.
In addition, CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten noted earlier this month that Trump is the first president to ever hit 80% disapproval on gas prices.
During his first term, the economy was often among his strongest issues in the polls.
But that’s not the only subject where he’s suffering.
The Economist finds Trump underwater on all five categories it tracks: inflation/prices, jobs and the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and crime.
