Did you know that over 20,000 Australian women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, making it the most prevalent form of cancer for women? That’s all the more reason why you should spend up to support research this October.
There’s good news if you’re in need of a beauty restock this month: just by shopping some of your favourite hair, skin, fragrance and body products, you can help fight cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a huge number of beauty brands are raising much-needed funding by donating part or all proceeds of certain “pink” products this month to support breast cancer research, treatment and care facilities.
The best bit? You’ll benefit, not only from the fresh beauty loot, but from the feel-good effects of putting your spending power towards something that will help the 20,000-plus Australian women who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
It’s still the leading cancer in Aussie women, and a cause close to many of our hearts, so when it comes to shopping pink products in October, there’s no such thing as buyer’s remorse.

Does breast cancer run in your family?
Five to 10 per cent of all breast cancers are hereditary, meaning the genetic mutation is passed down directly from a parent and can often result in more aggressive forms of the disease.
Join author and TV presenter Annabel Crabbe as she quizzes Australia’s leading breast cancer experts about the role genetics plays, as well as developments in treatment, who can get genetic testing done, the breast cancer risk factors to know and more during a live online Q&A discussion on Monday, October 24, from 5pm.
The experts who will be lending their insights on the evening include professors Kelly-Anne Phillips and Geoff Lindeman, Dr Milita Zaheed, a staff specialist in cancer genetics and chair of the NSW/ACT Familial Cancer Clinics community of practice, and Karen Alexander, whose family– including herself – have the BRCA gene mutation.
Crabbe will lead the discussion, but also put crowd-sourced questions to the panellists. The session is free and online. Submit a question to the panellists or register your interest here.
