A new video shows what happened to GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s shoes during the attempt on his life at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
Secret Service agents “hit me so hard that my shoes fell off,” Trump has explained of the assassination attempt.
And while one of Trump’s black dress shoes remained on the stage, footage published by Buffalo’s WBEN on Tuesday showed an agent throwing the other one into nearby grass, as Trump was being protected on the platform.
In the clip that was filmed from behind the stage, the agent’s throwing of the shoe appeared to be in a bid to clear the way for Trump to be taken down steps and into a nearby vehicle.
The fate of the former president’s footwear became an intense topic of discussion in the aftermath of the assassination attempt after he was heard repeatedly telling agents to “let me get my shoes” as they secured the area and kept him safe.
