President Donald Trump said the MAGA Inc. Super PAC has amassed “around a billion dollars” on Friday, also adding, “This is my money,” before claiming that he will spend around half of those funds on various Republican campaigns in the upcoming midterm elections.
Republicans have grown increasingly concerned about the PAC’s lack of spending in key races ahead of the November midterms, with many ads reportedly highlighting the president instead of the candidates.
“I’m going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us,” Trump told reporters Friday. “And this is money for MAGA Inc. This is my money, that I control. Now, this is separate from the RNC. It’s separate from people having money.”
He continued, “And I think it’s not even counted, in terms of the media. I’m not sure that they ever talk about it, they just found out about it, but yeah we have around a billion dollars that I can spend. I can spend for the next race, also. I can spend it for what I want to spend it for.”
Despite Trump’s billion-dollar claim, the super PAC reported $403.45 million as of July 31, according to its latest Federal Election Commission filing. The group has spent just $21 million since the beginning of 2025.
The president said on Friday that he will spend money on Republicans who “need help,” but was then asked if he would use some of the PAC funds in the 2028 elections — and confirmed, “I could use it for ’28 if I want, sure. I mean, I expect to have money left over.”
Trump has frequently floated the idea of running for a third, unconstitutional presidential term in 2028.
The expenditure issue was initially raised when a reporter asked Trump when MAGA Inc. would “start spending” on Ken Paxton, the Texas Republican nominee for U.S. Senate whom he endorsed despite a litany of scandals, and Trump replied, “We already did.”
Trump is facing historically low approval ratings, but reportedly told his top advisers last month that the $400 million war chest would be best spent highlighting his achievements. However, some Republicans now want him to stay away from their campaigns.
Trump spoke in general terms when asked how he determines how the funds should be used.
“I sit down and I say let’s do this, let’s do that,” he said. “I’m going to be going around, I’m going to be making contributions to various campaigns of … Republicans that I think are good, people that I think are going to win, can win or are close to winning.”
