Trump Grumbles Over ‘Inherited’ Russia-Ukraine War In Heated Post

President Donald Trump accused Ukraine yet again of being ungrateful for his efforts to end Russia’s war on the country as top Ukrainian, U.S. and European officials gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday to discuss the U.S. peace proposal to put an end to the war.

In a heated Truth Social post Sunday, the president, who has championed the 28-point plan, criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and top U.S. allies in Europe, arguing that “with strong and proper U.S. and Ukrainian LEADERSHIP,” the “violent and terrible” war wouldn’t have happened.

Trump has repeatedly blamed Zelenskyy for sparking the Ukraine-Russia war.

While speaking on Zelenskyy at the White House in April, Trump declared, “You don’t start a war against someone 20 times your size and then hope that people give you some missiles.”

Fuming in the post that the war “began long before” he took office for a second term, Trump went on to rail into the “Sleepy Joe Biden Administration” for making matters worse.

The right-wing leader then reiterated his repeated, false claims that the 2020 election, in which he lost against former President Joe Biden, was “RIGGED & STOLEN,” adding, “[that’s] the only thing the Radical Left Democrats are good at doing.”

“There would be no Ukraine/Russia War, as there wasn’t, not even a mention, during my first Term in Office,” he continued.

Trump claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin “would never have attacked” and launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 if he were president at the time.

“It was only when he saw Sleepy Joe in action that [Putin] said, ‘Now is my chance!’ The rest is history, and so it continues,” he wrote. “I INHERITED A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, A WAR THAT IS A LOSER FOR EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE SO NEEDLESSLY DIED.”

Wrapping up his message, Trump torched Ukraine’s leadership for expressing “ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS” before criticizing European countries that he said continue to buy oil from Russia.

Zelenskyy has repeatedly thanked the United States for its support amid the country’s war against Russia.

Trump also accused “crooked Joe [Biden]” of giving Ukraine weapons for “free, free, free.”

“THE USA CONTINUES TO SELL MASSIVE $AMOUNTS OF WEAPONS TO NATO, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UKRAINE (CROOKED JOE GAVE EVERYTHING, FREE, FREE, FREE, INCLUDING “BIG” MONEY!). GOD BLESS ALL THE LIVES THAT HAVE BEEN LOST IN THE HUMAN CATASTROPHE!,” Trump added.

Trump’s scathing remarks came after Zelenskyy posted on X Sunday that “further work” is taking place to make sure Ukrainian perspectives are considered in the proposal.

Trump said Friday that Kyiv has until Thursday to accept his 28-point proposal, which calls on Ukraine to cede territory ― and is significantly more favorable to Russia ― or face losing American military support.

The contentious peace proposal has faced pushback from European leaders.

In a followup on Saturday, Trump indicated that his proposal was not his final offer and that the plan is still open for negotiation.

Zelenskyy warned Friday that Ukraine faces a difficult decision amid Trump’s demands that Kyiv accept the White House peace plan that would force it to sacrifice territory to Russia and make other tough concessions.

Trump’s top diplomat, Marco Rubio, has also been accused by lawmakers of labeling the plan “Russia’s wish list.” A State Department spokesperson denied the allegations as “blatantly false.”
