CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten on Wednesday stressed that President Donald Trump’s net approval ratings on inflation are the “ugliest numbers” he’s ever seen.
“The five worst polls ever, for any president, they all belong to Donald John Trump and they have all occurred in the last month,” said Enten, who highlighted a new CNN/SSRS poll where Americans gave the president a whopping -48% approval rating on inflation.
“It is a record, simply put, you do not want to have.”
He later continued, “The five worst polls ever! Joe Biden’s not in there! Jimmy Carter’s not in there! All Donald Trump!”
The data guru’s spotlight on the polls arrives less than a day after Trump shoved Americans’ “financial situations” to the side when asked to what extent economic woes are “motivating” him in talks to end his unpopular Iran war.
“Not even a little bit,” said Trump, who later doubled down on the remarks that Democrats see attack ad potential in and Republicans are trying to shuffle away from.
Since Trump launched the U.S. into war in late February, costs at the gas pump have jumped by 50% and U.S. producer prices have risen in ways not seen in over three years.
A majority of Americans (77%) have now blamed Trump for the increased cost of living in their communities, per the new CNN/SSRS poll. That’s a leap from the percentage of those who say the president “hurt them” on the cost of living during his first term (40%), according to a poll from AP-NORC.
Enten argued that Americans are “absolutely thinking about” the economy and the cost of living, noting that 55% of those surveyed in the CNN/SSRS poll indicated that it’s now the top issue they’re facing.
Back in January, the poll found that 42% of Americans found the economy and the cost of living to be the No. 1 issue.
“Republicans, Democrats, united on this,” he said of the issue.
He later continued, “If Donald Trump can’t wrap his head around it, well, in their minds, the American people’s minds, he’s making the dopiest decision of all time.”
