Republican strategist Caroline Sunshine issued a dire warning to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after he expressed interest in running for president in 2028.

“Listen, it’s no secret that I want to be president. I ran for president. I came close,” Cruz told Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick during a podcast appearance released on Wednesday.

Reacting to Cruz’s statements in a conversation with Fox News host Jesse Watters on Thursday, Sunshine delivered a bold prediction on whom Cruz would lose to if he were to secure the Republican nomination in 2028.

“You better hope that Ted Cruz doesn’t run for president, cause you’re gonna lose to AOC,” Sunshine said. “Ted is sloppy, and he’s not central casting, and that’s what I have to say about that.”

Watters then questioned how Cruz would perform in the Republican primary.

“He’s a factor in the Republican primary,” Watters said.

“If Ted wants to get in, you know, Ted can get in; he might want to dress a little bit better,” Sunshine said.

President Donald Trump, when asked about the prospect of Cruz running, said Thursday that he was a “talented guy,” adding that he could see the Texas senator running.
