Wednesday may not have been the most fantastic day for JD Vance.
During an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham set to run this evening, Vance was asked about Newsom’s recent trolling of Trump and his MAGA followers.
However, Ingraham’s question tried to frame Newsom as simply copying Trump’s style, hoping for the same results as the president — not an attempt to give Trumpers a satirical taste of their own medicine.
But Ingraham couldn’t provide that context when she asked Vance, “How lost are the Democrats right now?”
Although it was a softball question, Vance still managed to screw things up when he offered this piece of advice: “Stop sounding like crazy people.”
Vance continued: “This idea that Gavin Newsom is somehow gonna mimic Donald Trump’s style ― I think that ignores the fundamental genius of President Trump’s political success, which is that he’s authentic,” he said. “Don’t be a crazy person, be authentic.”
Vance’s “don’t be a crazy person” comment was the sort of unintentionally ironic chum that gets social media sharks swimming around looking for snark opportunities.
That sound you hear? It’s the sound of deep, deep roasting.

Of course, Newsom was obliged to mock Vance’s comments ― that’s how this works, people ― and he did it with faint praise.
“He almost got it,” the governor posted on his personal X account.
