GOP Senator Slams Ketanji Brown Jackson For Attending Grammys

Ketanji Brown Jackson didn’t go home a winner after Sunday’s Grammy Awards, but the Supreme Court justice’s mere presence at the star-studded ceremony was enough for a GOP lawmaker to call for an investigation.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) on Thursday said she was concerned about Jackson’s ability to remain “above political influence” after seeing her take part in the Grammys, which she deemed a “highly politicized” event.

“We need an investigation into Justice Jackson’s ability to remain impartial,” Blackburn wrote on X.

That same day, Blackburn confirmed via her website that she’d sent a letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts urging him to “initiate an investigation” into Jackson’s participation at an event featuring “many polarized, highly charged anti-law enforcement sentiments.”

“While it is by no means unheard of or unusual for a Supreme Court justice to attend a public function, very rarely — if ever — have justices of our nation’s highest Court been present at an event at which attendees have amplified such far-left rhetoric,” Blackburn wrote.

She also pointed to Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish, both of whom used their Grammy acceptance speeches to condemn President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigrants, as well as the many stars who wore “ICE Out” pins denouncing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers’ actions after the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

“I urge you to initiate an investigation into Justice Jackson’s attendance at this event and if her participation in any way would require recusal from matters that will come before the Court,” she concluded.

HuffPost reached out to the Supreme Court Public Information Office for comment on Blackburn’s remarks, but did not immediately hear back.

Jackson was a first-time Grammy nominee for the audio version of her 2024 memoir, “Lovely One.” She lost in the spoken word album category to the Dalai Lama, who won for “Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.”

Still, Jackson appeared to enjoy herself at the Los Angeles ceremony, happily posing for photos with Queen Latifah and producer Pat Houston, the sister-in-law of late pop singer Whitney Houston, among other notables.

Grammys host Trevor Noah took several swipes at Trump throughout the ceremony. In his opening monologue, he joked that Trump would brag about having a bigger “ass” than rapper Nicki Minaj, who has fully embraced the president’s MAGA agenda in recent weeks.

Trump, in turn, deemed the Grammys “terrible” in a Monday post on his Truth Social platform.
