Fox News host Sean Hannity asked newly released EX-CONgressman George Santos (R) if he will pay back the hundreds of thousands of dollars he stole, prompting an answer that infuriated many on social media.
Hannity noted that President Donald Trump’s recent commutation of Santos’ seven-year sentence for identify theft and wire fraud also erased Santos’ debt to his victims.
“Even though you’re not compelled with this commutation to pay it back, do you think you should?” the host inquired.
“You know, Sean, I’ve put a lot of thought into that,” Santos replied. “And I’ve spoken to my legal team. And I think that the right thing to do is to explore a way to make it right. Part of actually squaring away with everything that has happened in my life is to start fresh and starting fresh, if it means we find a way to do it, sure.”
“That’s a lot of words to say ‘No. I have no intention of paying it back,’ one viewer wrote. “This redemption tour is disgusting.”
“He’ll give it the old never graduated from college try,” cracked another, referring to Santos’ lies, among others, about his educational achievements.
“If it’s not, then no,” he declared.
