Free Water Park Arrival Day On-Site Disney World Resort Perk Returns in 2027

Walt Disney World has announced that it’ll once again offer free admission to one of the water parks, Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach, on check-in day for on-site guests in 2027. Here’s everything we know, including a full list of eligible resorts (and new exclusion), plus dates the perk will likely be offered next summer.

Let’s start with the basics of the Walt Disney World resort guest benefit. This free water park arrival day perk is included on the first day of all on-site stays: room-only reservations, vacation packages, etc–even money-saving Disney Vacation Club point rentals are eligible!

This freebie first debuted last year, and was valid for the entire year. Unfortunately, it has been scaled back in 2026, and is only valid for summer travel dates. This same site has now been updated with a tease for 2027:

Enjoy this water park perk—and other great benefits—when you stay at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel in summer 2026. Valid for arrivals from May 26 to September 8, 2026.

Find places to stay at and around Walt Disney World Resort (including some hotels that are not eligible for the water park benefit).

This benefit will also be available for Guests staying at an eligible Resort hotel in Summer 2027, excluding the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Stay tuned for more information and dates.

Based on this year’s dates, we can probably surmise that the Summer 2027 free water park arrival day perk will be valid from approximately June 1 through September 7, 2027.

That’s a shorter date range than this year, but that’s due to the timing of Memorial Day and Labor Day. In both cases, this is the Tuesday after Memorial Day through the Tuesday after Labor Day. It’s entirely possible that Walt Disney World will end up expanding the Summer 2027 date range a bit to account for the schedule shift, but on the other hand, they might be satisfied with the operational cost-savings.

This perk being offered for only Summer 2027 disappointing but unsurprising. It’s disappointing because both weather and demand are conducive to this being offered from mid-March through mid-October, at the absolute minimum. It’s unsurprising that the perk mirrors 2026.

The water parks are slammed starting around Spring Break, and that does not relent until after Fall Break. With how hot summers are in Central Florida, the water parks are a welcome relieve from March through October, and it would’ve been nice if that were the approximate date range for this perk.

It’s only really the winter months, when cold weather is more common and the water parks often close due to lower temperatures, when the free water park perk is unnecessary and is arguably a net negative. We actually heard a lot of complaints about the freebie last year in January and February, as the water parks were frequently closed or too cold to use comfortably, and guests felt they were losing out on a valuable benefit.

The biggest reason why Walt Disney World wouldn’t offer the free water park day from Spring Break through Memorial Day and Labor Day through Columbus Day is that they don’t want the added expense of operating both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon at the same time. That’s really it.

Both water parks are now needed in the summer, whereas they can “get away” with a seasonal closure of one or the other during those Shoulder Seasons. Or at least, they can get away with it in the absence of the free water park day. Add this to the mix, and it presumably becomes more borderline, and both water parks would be necessary on hotter days.

There’s also the reality that fewer incentives and perks are needed to entice guests to visit during Spring Break and Fall Break. Those are busy stretches regardless, and a bonus perk probably doesn’t move the needle for most families. By contrast, it could be a difference-maker in the summer months, when both attendance and occupancy are lower. So while I don’t love Disney’s (miserly) decision here, I get it.

    Free Water Park Day Details

Upon arrival at the water park, use your MagicBand, MagicBand+, Disney MagicMobile pass or Key to the World Card for park entry.

If you don’t need to store your luggage, then you can go directly to the water park on your Resort check-in day—even if you haven’t checked in to your Walt Resort World hotel yet. (If you have only smaller items–like a day pack–lockers are available at the water parks. But they’re not suitcase-sized.)

If you do need to store your luggage, you’ll need to stop by your resort hotel first. Luggage is not permitted in the Disney water parks or on Disney buses. If you want to visit a water park before your room is ready, you can check your luggage with Bell Services at your Disney Resorts Collection hotel. You can have your bags delivered when you return to your room.

Park your car in a complimentary lot at the Disney water parks. Please be aware that free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. As we saw between spring break and summer last year, these free lots do fill up from time to time.

Adding Guests to a Resort Reservation

Walt Disney World has also added new details about adding guests to a reservation, most of which are pretty standard and can be done prior to arrival. However, as a final option, you may visit the Front Desk of your Disney Resorts Collection hotel on your check-in day, where a Cast Member can check eligibility and—if eligible—add an overnight Guest.

Additionally, if you want to add an overnight Guest to your Resort reservation—but only for a partial stay (and not the entire length of stay), visit the Front Desk of your Disney Resorts Collection hotel on your Resort check-in day, and ask if an overnight Guest can be added.

We assume these have been common questions as guests have tried to game the free water park perk by adding friends who are locals, family that’s staying off-site, etc. What’s interesting is how lax Walt Disney World is with this, offering a lot of flexibility for modifying the reservation to add guests to the stay.

WDW Resorts Eligible for Free Water Park Perk

Here’s the list of eligible resorts from Walt Disney World:

    • Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
    • Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
    • The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club Resort
    • The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
    • Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
    • Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort
    • Disney’s All-Star Music Resort
    • Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort
    • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
    • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House
    • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village
    • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
    • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
    • Disney’s Beach Club Villas
    • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
    • Disney’s BoardWalk Villas
    • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
    • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
    • Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
    • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
    • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
    • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
    • Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
    • Disney’s Pop Century Resort
    • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
    • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
    • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
    • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
    • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
    • Disney’s Riviera Resort
    • The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Note the strikethrough on the campsites at Fort Wilderness, as those will not be eligible for the free water park day in Summer 2027. This isn’t a huge shock, as Walt Disney World has had an issue with guests staying off-site in vacation rental homes booking “throwaway” campsites for the perks only.

This was more pronounced back in the days of free MagicBands, FastPass+ booking windows, etc., and we remember seeing tons of empty spots. I’m honestly not sure to what extent it’s an ongoing issue, but clearly enough of one for Walt Disney World to exclude the campsites from the free water park day perk. That’s really unfortunate for guests who actually stay at the campsites, but as is often the case, some bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

Also note that third party on-site hotels that are normally eligible for Early Entry or Extended Evening Hours are not able to take advantage of this free water park day perk. Meaning that Swan & Dolphin, Shades of Green, Disney Springs Resorts, Bonnet Creek, etc., are all ineligible.

Ultimately, guests who are able to take advantage of the free water park day this summer and next should get a lot of mileage out of it. Our expectation is that guest utilization and satisfaction with the free water park arrival day perk will be high for Summer 2026-2027 for two fairly straightforward reasons: longer hours and worse weather (or better weather for water parks).

If past precedent is indicative, the water parks will be open until 8 pm starting in mid-to-late June, and continue with those hours until mid-August. Our hope is that, due to the free water parks perk, those added hours start earlier and end later in the season. Memorial Day to Labor Day for 10 am to 8 pm hours would be fantastic.

Shifting to a 7 pm or 8 pm closing means more guests with midday flights will be able to take advantage of the perk. It won’t already be too late by the time they arrive via Mears Connect, drop off their bags, and take Disney transportation over to the water park. They will also have a greater incentive to use the perk “thanks” to the weather. The scales will tip in favor of using the free perk and visiting a water park over hanging out by the resort pool, doing a meal, etc.

This should more or less explain why Walt Disney World has already made the decision to bring the free water park arrival day perk back next year, but limit it to Summer 2027.

Outside of the summer, the weather isn’t consistently conducive to it. Arrivals from October through February might feel like they’re missing out on something because they cannot take advantage of the freebie due to closures, or simply don’t want to given the weather.

As we’ve seen this year, spring break is potentially a different story–but there’s no guarantee of good weather then. If Walt Disney World committed to offering the perk for March through September 2027 right now, they’d also probably have to commit to having both water parks running for the duration of those dates–or else risk the overcrowding that’s been reported many dates during spring break.

Even with more advance notice, this may not even be possible–water parks are disproportionately staffed by students, who are still in school this time of year and again in the early fall.

It’s nice to see this free water park day return, even if it’s limited to Summer 2027! For more advice on ‘hacking’ this on-site guest benefit, see Beat Big Crowds & Make the Most of Walt Disney World’s Free Water Park Perk!
