Trump this week announced a new incentive program offering rewards of up to $30,000 for information about fraud against the federal government.
Sanders seized the opportunity.
“That’s great, Mr. Trump. I’d like to report a theft,” he wrote on X.
The former Democratic presidential candidate then explained:
“A man inside our government illegally spent nearly $22 million in taxpayer dollars on bogus campaign ads praising himself.”
“He now resides on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” he added. “Taxpayers want to know when they’ll get their money back.”
Sanders was, of course, referring to the Trump administration’s use of taxpayer money to fund ads promoting the president and his administration, which began airing in late September.
Nearly $22 million in taxpayer money was spent on the campaign, NPR reported.
U.S. District Judge Jennifer Rochon has now temporarily blocked the Trump administration from using taxpayer cash to fund the spots.
