With three sizeable swimming pools (including lounge chairs submerged in water and opulent poolside cabanas), the most difficult decision during your time at Alaia will be whether to sun and soak up the water by the pristine beach or take a dip in one of the pools (both of which are very viable options since the resort’s layout is very manageable). An abundance of attentive staff members makes it very easy to score sunbeds, complete with ultra-luxurious cushions and prime sun – or shade (including no shortage of umbrellas) – positioning. Alaia Belize’s allure is further expanded by a wealth of on-site amenities that cater to a diverse array of interests and age groups, perfect for solo vacations, destination weddings, romantic honeymoons, girl’s getaways, family travels, corporate meetings, and multi-generational trips.

The boutique resort marks itself as the sole luxury destination in Belize that houses a dive shop on-site, presenting guests the unique opportunity to attain PADI certification. The chefs’ dedication to sourcing fresh, local ingredients added an extra layer of authenticity to the dining experience. Culinary delights are also at the cornerstone of an Alaia Belize stay, complete with several distinct dining options on-site. Sea Salt, the resort’s cornerstone restaurant, takes pride in offering freshly caught seafood and premium meats, all with a delectable Belizean twist. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily at Sea Salt, with the most warm and welcoming staff members to cater to your every gastronomic wish, want and need. An architectural marvel, and certainly a property standout, is the Vista restaurant, Belize’s first-ever suspended rooftop pool and lounge offer breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the ocean, lush landscapes, and nearby town, serving the freshest and most innovative sushi on the island. Last, but most certainly not least, is The Deck, an upscale yet casual restaurant offering an incredible view of the ocean, stunning sunsets and an inviting, intimate atmosphere. The cuisine is centered on coastal living and foods from the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Asia combined with local, sustainable fish and produce from the islands. Enhancing the luxury experience, the resort also features a piano bar that houses a self-playing baby grand piano, serving unique after-dinner drink and dessert options (taking espresso martinis to the next level).

Belize has a burgeoning culinary scene and there’s a plethora of off-property restaurants, all nearby, that will delight the tastebuds. Elvi’s Kitchen is one of the most famous restaurants on the island is has been a mainstay for well over 40 years. Elvi’s offers a wide variety of authentic local dishes that will be sure to wow you. The butter-poached grouper was an unexpected fan favorite, served with a mouth-watering corn sauce and habanero relish. Chichi’s chowder with lobster (which is in abundance on the island!) was the most delightful savory coconut soup I’ve ever tried, as was the coconut shrimp sauteed and served in an actual coconut shell. Purple Pelican, another local standout, is located on a lagoon, with spectacular sunsets, and offers a wide variety of unique, local, freshly prepared dishes served in a beautiful setting. Hidden Treasures is another restaurant not to be missed, specializing in Latin American and Caribbean cuisine, set in a tropical treehouse, this sultry restaurant will also provide roundtrip transportation from the Alaia free of cost. El Fogon, a local favorite, Blue Water Grill, with prime positioning on the beach, and Victoria House, for upscale outdoor poolside dining, are all worth visiting for noteworthy outings.

It’s tough to pull yourself away from the property, even for some of the most memorable meals. The architecture and design of the Alaia are a seamless blend of modern luxury and Belizean charm. The attention to detail is evident in every corner of the property, from the stylishly appointed rooms, suites and villas to the thoughtfully curated public spaces. The resort effortlessly combines contemporary aesthetics with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, creating an ambiance that is both sophisticated, yet relaxed. Speaking of rooms, the accommodations at Alaia are nothing short of spectacular. The 3-bedroom beachfront villas, equipped with private patios and personal plunge pools, are truly out of this world! Perhaps one of the finest luxury accommodations that I’ve had the great pleasure of staying in. The plush bedding, state-of-the-art amenities, and attentive housekeeping made every moment in the room a true delight.

From the moment you step onto the property, the warm bell staff greets you with a smile and an out-of-this-world welcome drink. From the attentive and very knowledgeable concierge team assisting with excursion planning or dinner plans, to the restaurant staff delivering culinary delights, the level of hospitality was truly outstanding. The guest services and management teams are also very present throughout one’s stay, making it a bespoke, personal and truly one-of-a-kind stay.
