WASHINGTON – Geoff Freeman, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, issued the following statement on the announcement of the nomination of Monica Crowley as Ambassador, Assistant Secretary of State, and Chief of Protocol.
Monica will be the Administration Representative for major U.S. hosted events, including America’s 250th Birthday in 2026, the FIFA World Cup in 2026, and the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Monica Crowley is a former online opinion editor for The Washington Times and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Following Trump’s election victory, it was announced in December 2016 that Crowley would join the Trump administration as a deputy national security advisor. Following this announcement on July 16, 2019, Trump announced Crowley’s appointment as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs in the Treasury Department. Crowley replaced Tony Sayegh, who left the position in May, as the top spokeswoman for Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
