“After moving in with my ex, I started getting large hives all over my face and body. Eventually, I realized they were caused by the dryer sheets he insisted on using. He kept pushing for us to use them because he liked them, so we started doing our laundry separately. Naturally, that meant I also had to handle all the bedding and towels because he would ‘forget’ and use dryer sheets. It was part of a much bigger pattern where my needs were constantly pushed aside because he couldn’t be bothered, while I was always bending over backward to make him happy. Fast forward 14 years: I was divorced and moving in with my new boyfriend. I saw dryer sheets in the laundry room and explained that we’d need to find a different laundry system because of my allergy. Without hesitation, he threw them in the trash. I protested that he didn’t have to do that, and he just laughed and said, ‘If it hurts you, it’s dead to me.'”
“He brings that same energy to everything in our relationship. It was such a small moment, but it showed me that he genuinely cares about me and my happiness in a way I’d never experienced before. I’ve always been someone who puts my own needs aside to make others happy, and he’s always there reminding me that I matter too.”
