Vermejo, a Ted Turner Reserve announced the opening of Bernal Lake Cabin, a premium, secluded wilderness experience, for guest stays. The sprawling 550,000 acre reserve in northern New Mexico and is a four-hour drive from either Denver or Albuquerque and transports guests into a wilderness far, far away.

Located 20-minutes from the Main Lodge, the cabin features a split floor plan with two master suites and overlooks Bernal Lake and the surrounding recreation area. Encompassing 1,460 sq. ft. of rustic luxury, “at Bernal Lake Cabin you’re transported to a simpler time, listening to the wind in the trees and stories by the fire. It’s just you, and nature, but with all of the luxuries and comforts you’ve come to enjoy,” said Theresa King, General Manager. Each of the master suites boast a king bed and clawfoot soaking tub, offering a secluded stay experience.

With a mission to connect people to nature, the cabin provides guests a completely immersive experience, offering a unique location to soak in the sights, sounds and scents of the surrounding nature. Open year-round, the all-inclusive offering is replete with meals provided by private chef or on-own, at request, as well as access to the Main Lodge Dining Room, when desired. Inaugural year packages start at $3,000 per night, with a minimum two-night stay, though a minimum of three-nights is recommended.

The foundation, log beams and fireplace all remain from its original structure – which was built in 1928 by the Vermejo Club, an invitation-only social organization, attracting celebrated members such as Cecil B. DeMille, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Herbert Hoover – and inside the spacious living room which surrounds a propane fireplace recreates the social environment and acts as the hub for communal/family gatherings.

Bernal Lake Cabin’s interiors have been designed to evoke a true sense of place as Santa Fe-based design firm Los Griegos Studio invested countless hours canvassing New Mexico and Colorado for a collection of regional furniture and fixtures representative of the bygone era. From restoring century-old tables and chairs to historic rail-route maps, converted kerosene lanterns and Navajo-inspired fabrics, you are fully immersed in this rustic hideaway when indoors. The cabin also features a children’s loft, heated floors throughout and a cedar soaking hot tub which is located just outside the accommodation/surrounded by natural beauty, making the cabin a perfect year-round vacation locale.

With a commitment to conserving both the land and the threatened species that call it home, Vermejo is a remarkable place where the ecosystem is balanced and respected. It is home to one of the purest herds of American bison in the world and is home to a wide variety of wildlife including elk, black bears and mountain lions. The property also features over 12 miles of mapped and marked hiking trails giving guests ample opportunities to enjoy and explore nature.
