The “TikTokification” of Search: Why the Creator Model Is Replacing the Ranking Model

Frameworks only work if they’re actionable. Here are the most concrete adjustments this model requires in practice.

    Stop doing:

    1. Stop treating Domain Authority as a proxy for visibility in AI search.

Domain Authority measures relevance passed through links. It’s useful for understanding the link ecosystem, but it doesn’t capture what Google weighs when it decides who to cite in an AI Overview.

This doesn’t conflict with the Authority Layer described earlier. A creator can run a low-DA domain and still be highly citable if their presence across platforms is coherent and consistent. Confusing both is the most common mistake I see SEO professionals making today.

    2. Stop publishing content without clear and attributable authorship.

Content without an identifiable author is content without an entity. Google has no way to consolidate it into a creator profile, build a view of thematic authority, or confidently decide whether that source deserves grounding in a synthesized response. Every piece published without clear authorship is a missed opportunity to strengthen the creator’s presence as an indexable entity.

    3. Stop ignoring social distribution as a grounding signal.

Presence on LinkedIn, X, and YouTube goes beyond content distribution. It’s building signals Google uses to synthesize responses and validate thematic authority. The value of social distribution in the current model isn’t in the click but in the grounding.

    Start doing:

    1. Check the existence of your Creator Profile and the profiles within your organization.

Before anything else, check whether Google has already generated a profile for you or for the authors in your organization. Tools such as kgmid-gp.pojda.dev and rankit.fr let you run this verification. This is the most concrete and immediate step to connect your distributed presence to the entity Google is already building about you.

    2. Produce dense, attributable, and verifiable content.

Relevance and intent still matter, but they’re not enough. The content Google reaches for when grounding a response tends to be precise, verifiable, and clearly attributable to a specific source or perspective. Vague claims, generic content, and text produced without an authorial perspective have less chance of being cited, regardless of Domain Authority.

    3. Expand your understanding of how you appear in the user journey.

You can’t directly measure sessions within AI Overviews, but you can, and should, understand how you’re present in the user journey within the platform. Google Search Console recently added performance reporting for generative AI experiences. Use it. Then, test queries relevant to your business in AI Mode, observe who gets cited, how often your brand or your authors appear, and what Google is synthesizing about you when someone searches your name or your area of expertise. This mapping is the starting point for any presence strategy in the new model.
