CNN host Kaitlan Collins offered a prediction for what President Donald Trump will do if Democrats prevail in the upcoming midterm elections and he is impeached again.
Appearing Friday on the “Pivot with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway” podcast, Collins warned Trump is likely to take a more aggressive approach when responding to congressional oversight amid a possible third impeachment.
“I don’t think that they will handle congressional oversight the way they did the first time, and I think that the president hated being impeached so much, even though he expects it and thinks it’ll happen again this time,” Collins said. “I think there will be way more pushback from the DOJ and from the White House, even than what we saw the last time around.”
Swisher disagreed and said she believes Trump will “roll right over.”
“I think he’s a bully … he gets punched in the nose, he’s going to stop,” Swisher said.
Trump was impeached twice during his first term in office, once for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress related to a call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy where he tried to leverage military aid in an attempt to get the country to investigate then-former Vice President Joe Biden.
The second impeachment stemmed from his incitement of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
While Trump was impeached in the House of Representatives both times, he was acquitted twice in the Senate.
House Democrats, despite being the minority, have introduced at least three impeachment resolutions since Trump retook the White House. One resolution cites “abuse of presidential power by calling for the execution of members of Congress” and “abuse of presidential power to intimidate federal judges in violation of the separation of powers and independence of the judiciary.”
The second lists 13 articles, including “militarization of domestic law enforcement,” “serial unconstitutional detentions and deportations,” and “retaliation against constitutionally protected speech or association.”
Earlier this week, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) introduced a third impeachment resolution.
