Former New York Post Editor Scorches Outlet Over Its Coverage Of ICE Shooting Victim

A former New York Post editor had harsh words for his previous outlet’s characterization of the Minneapolis woman shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Wednesday.

David Yelland, who served as a deputy editor at the Post in the 1990s, blasted the publication for describing Renee Nicole Good as a ”‘Warrior’ of the Left” on its front page Friday.

“Today’s New York Post is a disgrace. I speak as a former deputy editor of that paper,” he wrote on X.

In a follow-up post, Yelland urged staff at outlets owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, including the New York Post, to push back against such dismissive coverage.

“What are serving Murdoch editors going to do about the lies and prejudice being told (and repeated by some of their colleagues) around this murder? Stand by and just go to the bars tonight and forget it?” he wrote. “Or grow some balls.”

Responding to a post by Canadian lawyer Warren Kinsella, who called the Post’s cover story “fucking appalling,” Yelland noted, “Quite right. Well said. Why are so many mainstream journalists happy to smear this woman? What the fuck is going on in their heads?”

The Post’s article, which can be viewed in full here, describes Good, 37, as part of a “lefty enclave” who resided in an “activist-heavy neighborhood of south Minneapolis” with “a large number of homes with windows decked out in LGBTQ+ flags or signs depicting George Floyd.”

Yelland, who later served as an editor at the U.K. outlet The Sun before moving on to a career in public relations, went on to criticize other mainstream publications for their “both sides”-ing of Good’s death.

“I’ve never been angrier with my old newspaper peers than today. They lie about the murder of a mother,” he wrote. “Why? What is the matter with them?”

Numerous conservative outlets and media figures have been hit with backlash over their coverage of the shooting, which took place on Wednesday shortly after Good had dropped off the 6-year-old son she shares with her wife, Becca, at school.

President Donald Trump and members of his administration have attempted to frame Good’s death as an act of self-defense, with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem describing Good’s behavior prior to the shooting as an act of “domestic terrorism.”
