New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo clicked with the Hot 97 morning show on Monday ― but not in a good way. (Watch the video below.)
The former New York governor or his team appeared to disconnect when host Ebro Darden asked him about an endorsement from President Donald Trump.
In an interview on the eve of Tuesday’s election against Democratic front-runner Zohran Mamdani, and Republican Curtis Sliwa, Cuomo’s radio silence caught the “Ebro in the Morning” crew off-guard.
“Your boy was just on ‘60 Minutes,’ Cuomo, saying you’re his guy!” Darden told Cuomo in a clip shared by MeidasTouch.
“Trump said you’re his candidate!” the host continued. “If he had to pick a bad Democrat or a… communist, he’s picking you!”
“I think they cut him off,” co-host Peter Rosenberg said. “I think that he had to wrap.”
“I really wanted to hear that answer!” co-host Laura Stylez said.
“Ebro just got spicy,” Rosenberg said, adding that he heard a hang-up “click” at Cuomo’s end.
“Wow,” Stylez said. “OK.”
“Oh well,” Darden added.
On “60 Minutes” Trump said the election was “between a bad Democrat and a Communist” and he would pick “the bad Democrat all the time.”
He issued a firmer endorsement on Truth Social Monday: “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”
But it sure sounded like Cuomo, who’s running as an independent, wanted nothing to do with an implied alliance between them on election eve.

Cuomo spokesperson Rich Azzopardi, however, told HuffPost on Tuesday the disconnect was an accident.
“The call got dropped and then right after [Cuomo] did three gaggles with the entire New York City press corps where he discussed the same topics,” Azzopardi said.
