Step into the bold, free-spirited world of the Greek goddesses—where strength meets serenity and sun-kissed skin shimmers under the Mediterranean sun. It’s here, in this dreamscape of coastal charm and golden-hour glamour, that Aegean Cat comes to life. Effortlessly blending timeless silhouettes with goddess-level confidence, Aegean Cat is the must-have brand for Summer 2025. With flattering, figure-loving swimwear, intricate handmade details, and a touch of mythical magic, each piece is designed to move with you—from beach days to breezy dinners. Founded by Christina Dossa, a proud Greek native with a lifelong passion for craftsmanship, Aegean Cat captures the spirit of the Aegean Sea in every stitch. For Social Lifestyle Magazine readers, it’s not just swimwear—it’s a summer state of mind.

My interview with Christina Dossa, founder of Aegean Cat, offers an exclusive peek at this wonderful swimwear and resort wear brand.

Meghan Forte: What’s your personal favorite piece from the collection right now, and why?

Christina Dossa: Right now, the elegant and versatile Maya one-piece is my standout favorite from the collection. It’s designed to do more than just look good by the water—it flatters, supports, and contours. The double-layered Italian fabric creates a smooth silhouette, especially around the waist, while the underwire bra offers real support without compromising comfort. What sets it apart is the elegant, hand-embellished belt that elevates the entire look. It transitions easily from beach to dinner—just add a linen skirt or your favorite pair of jeans, and it becomes a striking bodysuit. Maya was made to make women feel confident and ready for wherever the day leads.

Meghan Forte: Aegean Cat began as a concept in 2019. Can you tell us more about that initial spark and what inspired you to turn your vision into a brand?

Christina Dossa: Aegean Cat was inspired by the effortless elegance of Mediterranean living. The idea first started to take shape during a summer in the Greek islands, where I was drawn to the balance of timeless style and relaxed coastal energy. But my relationship with design started much earlier. I’ve been knitting and crocheting since I was ten, always interested in how things are made and how they last. That early attention to detail shaped how I think about quality, and it’s a big part of what Aegean Cat stands for today. Every piece is crafted with purpose and made to feel both polished and easy to wear.

Meghan Forte: You describe the Aegean Cat as strong-willed and independent, much like the modern woman. How does the brand aim to empower the women who wear your designs?

Christina Dossa: To me, empowerment is about how something makes you feel in your own skin. Aegean Cat embodies independence, and that energy is woven into every design. Swimwear should work with your body, not against it—providing a secure, flattering, and effortless fit. Whether you’re lounging by the sea or heading straight to dinner, our pieces seamlessly transition with you. It’s about feeling comfortable, confident, and truly yourself in every moment.

Meghan Forte: What message or feeling do you hope your customers experience when they slip into an Aegean Cat piece?

Christina Dossa:  When a woman slips into an Aegean Cat piece, I want her to feel like she’s wearing something made just for her—something that reflects her unique style, comfort, and confidence.

Meghan Forte: You grew up surrounded by beautiful fabrics and handmade clothing thanks to your mother. How have those early memories influenced your approach to design?

Christina Dossa: Growing up, I was always surrounded by beautiful fabrics, yarns, and handmade pieces—my mom had this incredible eye for sewing and would often make clothes that felt more special than anything store-bought. Watching her work taught me to pay attention to the little things: the feel of a fabric, the drape of a hem, the strength of a seam. It also gave me an early understanding that what we wear can be both functional and deeply personal. That foundation stayed with me.

Meghan Forte: You mention having an emotional connection to the Aegean Sea—how does that feeling translate into your creative process?

Christina Dossa: The simplicity, beauty, and energy of the Aegean Sea directly inspire my designs. Just like the sea’s timeless elegance, I create swimwear that is simple, classic, and will never go out of style. The fluidity and energy of the water guide me to craft pieces that not only flatter the body but also empower women to feel confident, much like the sea’s vast presence that makes you feel strong and connected.

Meghan Forte: What are your go-to beach day essentials?

Christina Dossa: With two teenage girls, beach days mean packing for all of us. I always bring a roomy tote with sunscreen, snacks, and plenty of water. For myself, it’s an Aegean Cat suit, a knit cover-up, a wide-brimmed hat, and a good book if I get a moment to relax.

Meghan Forte: How do you select the premium fabrics used in your swimwear, and what sets these materials apart?

Christina Dossa: Choosing the right fabric is where it all begins for me. I look for materials that feel incredible against the skin and perform effortlessly. The fabrics need to move with you, hold their shape, and flatter without effort. We use premium Italian textiles known for their softness and exceptional elasticity, which smooth and support in all the right places. Each piece is then sewn with care in a small atelier in Athens, where craftsmanship is everything.

Meghan Forte: Your designs merge classic silhouettes with intricate, handmade details like braids and Greek key elements. What inspires these unique touches?

Christina Dossa: I’ve always been drawn to designs that feel timeless yet personal, and those handmade details are how that feeling takes shape. The braids and Greek key elements are inspired by Greek heritage—symbols that have endured for generations and still feel modern today. They add meaning and texture without disrupting the simplicity and ease of the design.

Meghan Forte What does partnering with stores like The Greek Designers Store at Athens Airport mean to you?

Christina Dossa: Partnering with The Greek Designers Store at Athens Airport feels like a full-circle moment. It’s about sharing Greek craftsmanship with travelers from around the world and bringing a piece of the Aegean spirit to a global audience. It’s an honor to be alongside other local talents, and for me, it’s about honoring both heritage and modernity in a way that resonates with people wherever they are.
