President Donald Trump reached a crescendo of praise for his lawyer-turned-enemy Michael Cohen in part 2 of an interview on Cohen’s radio show Sunday.
Cohen, who testified against Trump in his hush-money trial that resulted in a criminal conviction, had his former boss as a guest on his show after the attorney claimed earlier this year that he was “coerced” by prosecutors to help take down Trump.
Cohen asked Trump about angry reaction to their reconciliation.
“Because you did something that most people don’t have the guts to do,” the president said. “You told stories in order to get out of trouble. And you thought about it. And you recanted your testimony. And most people don’t have the guts to do that. And by recanting, you hurt them and frankly you were good to the president of the United States.”
“I wouldn’t even be talking to you right now if you didn’t, to be honest,” Trump added. “You did something that very few people have done.”
Tump mentioned raids on Cohen’s home and office.
“A lot of people wouldn’t have been able to take it,” the president continued. “You took it for a while, in all fairness, then they broke you down — but you came back.”
Trump accused New York Attorney General Letitia James, who brought a civil business fraud case against Trump, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who led the hush-money case accusing Trump of falsifying records to conceal a silence payment to alleged mistress Stormy Daniels, of using Cohen.
“I think it’s so amazing that you came out and you told the story and people respect you for doing it,” the president gushed, per Mediaite.
In the first segment on WABC radio, Cohen appeared to repledge his loyalty by calling Trump “boss.”
Cohen admitted to CNN that he also applied for a pardon from the Trump administration.
The epic insults between the two ― Cohen calling Trump a “con man,” “racist” and “cheat; Trump calling Cohen a “rat” and a “liar” ― now appear to be bygones.
