Surprisingly, while casual outfits are supposed to be easy and effortless, a lot of guys have the hardest time with them. Casual so often means just putting whatever on, and when you’re trying to look intentional while staying casual, that can be tricky.

This outfit is a sweet spot—casual but put together, relaxed but not looking like you just rolled out of bed.

For this outfit, the effort isn’t in wearing it—it’s in finding, learning about, and acquiring the specific pieces. Once you have them, the OG-107 pants or the textured sweatshirt become an easy closet pull, just like any pair of jeans or a hoodie.

The pants are inspired by OG-107 military fatigues, a workwear staple from the ’50s, and they provide an interesting and solid base to this casual look. Traditionally, these had a looser fit with patch pockets on the front and flap pockets on the back. Modern versions mix and match those details, but what matters is the combination of a heavy fabric, patch pockets, and a relaxed fit. These pants are undeniably casual, but they have so much detail, they never look lazy.

My pair is a discontinued Amazon Essentials version I’ve had for years. The looser fit does the work—it moves well, but there’s no excess fabric, creating a comfortable, modern drape. Like the sweatshirt, they aren’t baggy, and no one would mistake them for it.

At a glance, the sweatshirt is just any cream or oatmeal sweater. But finding one with texture—like this one, with a rainbow nep, meaning tiny flecks of color woven into the base—gives it that extra bit of detail. I always think it looks like if Funfetti were a sweatshirt, but not in a weird way. The other options listed here don’t have that, but they work for different reasons. No logos screaming for attention, just good choices doing their thing.

Since the sweatshirt and pants are earth-toned—olives, tans, and also with sneakers—I layered a marled heather blue tri-blend T-shirt. Instead of matching the color palette, I leaned into the classic vintage vibe that ties the whole outfit together.

For sneakers, these are the Converse 70 Hi in parchment—my go-to when I want something easy, casual, and not leather. I featured them just last week. This colorway gives the classic Chuck silhouette a little more refinement, making it as at home with denim as it is with utility pants.

Overall, it’s a casual outfit that’s super comfortable, looks good, and works for pretty much anything you’d need at this dress level—errands, grabbing a drink with a friend, a last-minute video call. The pieces do the heavy lifting: the pants bring structure, the sweatshirt adds texture, and the sneakers keep it easy and purposeful.

This is the kind of outfit where if you run into someone you know, you feel like you showed up right. You threw something on quick, but it still makes sense. There’s a mix of military, workwear, and vintage influences that keeps it easy without looking like a time capsule.
