The end of October represents a key tax deadline for institutional investors and an opportunity to buy some of the year’s worst-performing stocks, according to a new note from Bank of America.
The trading opportunity is created by tax loss harvesting, which is the process of selling stock holdings that have struggled during a calendar year, allowing the losses to be realized and used to offset gains in other investments or income.
